The Results - Beginnings

The top 12 finalists opened the show with a mash-up performance celebrating their beginnings: The current #1 song on the Billboard HOT 100 - Lady Gaga's Born This Way sung by the girls combined with the #2 smash from 1968 by Steppenwolf, Born To Be Wild. It was a nice effort to try and stick to the theme, but it didn't quite hit the mark.

Jacob, Lauren, Casey and Paul are all safe while Haley was the first to be in the bottom three.

The Season 9 Miss American Idol winner, Lee DeWyze, is already a candidate for a "where are they now" special after winning the crown less than a year ago. His singles have completely fizzled on the charts so he showed up tonight to try and give his career a much needed boost. Too bad he's still a boring performer no matter what he sings, but after giving his best effort tonight it's still possible some of those fans that voted for him will go out and buy his latest song.

Scotty, Pia, James, and Stefano then got the news that they are safe, but Naima had to go join Haley in the bottom three. Finally, Thia was given the good news that she is also safe, but Karen wasn't so lucky.

The Black Eyed Peas then took the stage to debut their latest single, I Just Can't Get Enough, with the hopes to reclaim the top of the charts like they did in 2009. Unfortunately, with a song like this one it will not be likely.

Both Naima and Haley were sent back to safety leaving the very talented Karen Rodriguez to sing Mariah Carey's huge #1 smash from 1994, Hero, one more time hoping the judges will use their save and keep her in the competition. Karen once again did a wonderful job, but the judges decided to let her go anyway.

I got two of my predictions right this week in correctly guessing that Haley and Naima would be in the bottom three, but Karen is definitely going home to soon. Who knows what kind of hot mess Haley is going to serve up next week.
