The Results - Queen

Jessica was the first to be safe while Elise had to take the first seat in this week's bottom three.

Last year in Season 10 Stefano Langone stood out as the best and most impressive male vocalist in the competition. In addition to his outstandingly smooth voice, he has the handsome good looks and to go along with his energetic dance moves and stage presence. He made a return to the Miss American Idol stage tonight to debut his new single called I'm On A Roll. It's a great dance pop jam that has the potential to entertain us all summer long.

Joshua is also safe, but Hollie had to take a seat next to Elise in the bottom three.

When it comes to naming the top hit maker of 2010, 2011 and moving into 2012 there really is no competition. Pop superstar Katy Perry has been successfully serving up the most catchy songs for over two years and all of them have reached the upper portion of the Billboard HOT 100. Tonight she delivered a great performance of her current #1 hit, Part of Me.

With Phillip being safe that left Skylar to round out the bottom three with Hollie and Elise. But ultimately the time has finally come for Elise to be sent home. She performed a hard rocking Led Zeppelin cover for the last time.

The one and only prediction I got right this week was Elise being in the bottom three with her being eliminated from the competition. All I can say is that it's about time.

The Top 6 - Queen

The Top 6 finalists will take on the classic music of rock super group Queen tonight.

Bohemian Rhapsody was a huge hit for Queen not just once but twice. The first time around it peaked at #9 in 1976, but after it was used in the movie Wayne's World it went all the way up to #2 in 1992. The song is a vocal roller coaster that allowed for Jessica Sanchez to rise to the challenge and take us on a wild ride. She was able to display her range and versatility by veering away from her usual R&B ballad style and completely embody the role of rocker chick.

Country girl Skylar Laine made a sincere effort to get out of her comfort zone and try something different with her performance of The Show Must Go On. The production was grand, hard rocking and over the top, but there were times in the song when the strength of her voice couldn't keep up with the drama in the song.

Crazy Little Thing Called Love spent 4 weeks at #1 on the Billboard HOT 100 in 1980. Joshua Ledet used this fun and bouncy rockabilly number to completely take over the stage and own it. But to be honest, the song was better than the singer.

It is quite likely that Elise Testone is thrilled to have this opportunity to sing I Want It All as she perceives herself as a true classic rocker. The problem is that all the hard rock energy in the world isn't going to make up for her limited vocal range. Every note she tries to sing is forced and strained.

The song Fat Bottomed Girls that hit #24 in 1978 displayed the refreshing sense of humor and entertaining style that Queen brought to the pop music scene. Phillip Phillips took this playful anthem and dragged it down to an unpleasant level where he seemed much more angry than festive. This guy has no range at all.

Hollie Cavanagh just makes it look so easy. She performed the 1980 song Save Me with a powerful and passionate vocal range that put all the others to shame. This very sweet and attractive young woman knows how to sing and leaves us wanting to hear more.

Dance With My Father was a Grammy winning Song of the Year for Luther Vandross in 2003. This could be an even bigger huge smash with the outstanding vocals of Jessica Sanchez. She did an amazing job and told the heartfelt story in the lyrics with genuine grace and beauty.

Jason Aldean has been riding high at the top of the Country charts for the past two years singing hits like Tattoos On This Town. Skylar Laine played it safe with this selection. She's good, but she seems to be coasting in her comfort zone.

Joshua Ledet showed some unexpected restraint on his rendition of Ready For Love by India Arie. It was nice to see he can put the screaming aside and give the audience something different. It was an emotional interpretation of the song.

Jimi Hendrix is an iconic guitar legend, but he's not known for his iconic vocals. Elise is purposefully positioning herself as a thing of the past with this performance of Bold As Love. There was nothing here to convey that she is interested in being a current artist on the scene.

Phillip Phillips is stuck in his limited rut of serving up more of the same. This time it was a dreary reading of a Dave Matthews song and it was completely forgettable.

Miley Cyrus is one of the hottest teen stars around having a #4 hit in 2009 with The Climb. It's an inspirational ballad that was improved exponentially with the impressive vocals of Hollie Cavanagh. She looks stunning standing center stage and then she opens her mouth and the voice comes out that is sweet, crystal clear, and pure pleasure for your ears.

If the voting goes the way it should, there are three very good singers who should easily be safely coming back next week: Hollie, Jessica and Skylar. With that being stated, my prediction for the bottom three is Phillip, Elise and Joshua. That fact is that Elise did nothing this week to change my opinion that she should be the one going home.

The Results - Two Songs

The Top seven finalists opened the show with a very festive group performance of Dancing In The Streets that Martha and the Vandellas took to #2 in 1964. It was all fun and partying as it culminated in a rainbow colored balloon drop. The party had to come to an though when Joshua got the news that he is safe while Hollie had to take the first place in the bottom three.

The Season 5 Miss American Idol winner, Taylor Hicks, was in the audience to share his exciting news that he will be headlining in Las Vegas later this year. Taylor then introduced the Season 8 Miss American Idol winner, Kris Allen to the stage so he could debut his new single The Vision Of Love. After getting past the initial disappointment that, despite the song title, this has nothing to with the amazing Mariah Carey, it turns out the the song is actually a pretty nice little uptempo number that shows off his smooth vocal range.

Skylar learned that she is safe, but Elise heard the news that she is once again in the bottom three.

LMFAO had a huge 2011 scoring two huge #1 hits on the Billboard HOT 100 with Party Rock Anthem and Sexy and I Know It. Tonight they showed that they are keeping the party going in 2012 with their latest single Sorry For The Party Rocking. It's another dance jam with a great beat that also shows off their wonderful sense of humor.

With Jessica and Phillip both being safe that left Colton to join Hollie and Elise in the bottom three. Sadly, with the judge's SAVE already being used there was nothing to save Colton from having his first visit to the bottom three actually having him be sent home. The American Idol journey for this talented and charismatic young man has come to an end tonight as he was revealed as the lowest vote getter of the week.

Once again, I only correctly predicted one of the bottom three and it was Elise who I got right. She really has to be the one going home next week....

The Top 7 - two songs

Each of the top 7 finalists will sing two songs tonight.

Hollie Cavanagh got things off to an amazing start with her outstanding rendition of Adele's Rolling In The Deep. It was the biggest #1 hit song of 2011 as well as the Grammy winning Record of the Year. Hollie used her impressive vocal instrument to raise this song to an even higher level. It was confident and entertaining.

Colton Dixon kept things at a high energy pace as he rocked out his own version of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance that peaked at #2 in 2010. He definitely made it his own while still staying true to the dramatic performance art vibe that Lady Gaga originally created.

Elise Testone did her best to compete as she performed the Alicia Keys #1 hit from 2007, No One. But rather than presenting an effortless expression of her talent she seems very strained and forced.

Phillip Phillips kept things in the strained and forced direction as he attempted to sing the song that Usher took to #1 in 2001, U Got It Bad. Instead of being able to demonstrate any range or levels of dimension in the song, it was just unpleasant from beginning to end.

Jessica Sanchez brought the night back on track with a musical master class worthy interpretation of Alicia Keys #1 hit from 2001, Fallin. Her voice is pure, powerful and passionate. She looks like a seasoned professional as she takes the microphone and completely owns the stage.

Skylar Laine provided a down home country version of Lady Gaga's 2011 #1 smash Born This Way. The vocals were good and it was a perfect fit for her image.

When Fantasia was crowned as the Season 3 Miss American Idol winner in 2004 she hit #1 with her first single, I Believe. Joshua Ledet used this inspirational anthem to showcase his ability to be up there with the winners. It was an ideal match for his vocal range and it showed off his talent at his best.

Hollie Cavanagh makes singing clear and perfect notes look so easy. She has a true gift and it comes through every time she is on stage. And Wow! she looks so cute in her outfits and high heels. This time it was an adorable pink mini while singing Dusty Springfield's Son Of A Preacher Man that hit #10 in 1968.

Earth Wind and Fire had a #8 disco hit song in 1978 with September, but Colton Dixon re-imagined this jam as a piano driven ballad. This arrangement was a smashing success to connect him to an even bigger and broader audience.

When Marvin Gaye hit #1 in 1973 with Let's Get It On, he made history with one of the sexiest songs of all time. Elise Testone was completely lacking in any connection to this song with this awkward performance.

Wilson Pickett hit #21 in 1965 with In The Midnight Hour. This song fit the narrow, limited range of Phillip Phillips perfectly. This is all that he knows how to do, but even this was weak and boring.

Otis Redding made a classic out of his #25 hit Try A Little Tenderness from 1966. Jessica Sanchez delivered a rousing new classic version for 2012 with her vocal throw down performance. It was raw and emotional while still being a cut above the rest.

Skylar Laine gave the fans another country version of a popular favorite. This time it was I Heard It Through The Grape Vine that Gladys Knight took to #2 in 1967. Skylar is starting to go on auto-pilot doing the same thing every time regardless of the song.

A Change Is Gonna Come hit #31 in 1965 for Sam Cooke. Joshua Ledet provided more of his classic soul vocals on this great song. Each note was packed with determination and sweat.

My prediction for the bottom three this week is an easy one: Phillip Phillips, Elise Testone and Skylar Laine. All three of them have nothing new to show us and no ability to grow into bigger and better music artists. It is time for these three to fade away and let the remaining stars in the competition shine. Elise should finally be the one going home.

The Results - Recent Hits

The Top 7 finalists started out the show with a pretty sloppy group performance of Pink's hit Raise Your Glass. The concert for the evening got better when the Season 10 Miss American Idol 3rd Runner Up, James Durbin, returned to the stage to perform his new single Higher Than Heaven. He is the same hard rocking showman that we grew to know and love last year. He delivered a high energy vocal roller coaster exactly like we would expect from him.

Ryan divided the finalists into two groups. Hollie, Phillip and Colton were in one, while Jessica, Elise and Joshua were in the other. Skylar was left to sit on her own.

The Season 3 Miss American Idol finalist and Oscar winner, Jennifer Hudson, also returned to the stage to perform her latest single. It's a duet with Ne-Yo and it's also the theme song to the new movie Think Like A Man. Jennifer always looks and sounds wonderful and she is likely to have another hit on her hands after this entertaining number.

Skylar was placed in safety along with Hollie, Phillip and Colton revealing that Jessica, Elise and Joshua are this week's bottom three. In what is sure to go down in history as the biggest shock of the season, Jessica was announced as the lowest vote getter of the week and had to sing for her life. She barely got through the first lines of Nobody's Supposed To Be Here before all three judges got up on stage to stop her and announce that they would be using the SAVE for her. Jessica is easily one of the best singers the Miss American Idol competition has ever seen so now the viewers have to get their acts together and actually vote for her next week.

Because of this huge shocking surprise turn of events I only predicted one of the bottom three correctly this week with Elise once again getting close to elimination.

The Top 7 - Recent Hits

The Top 7 finalists can perform any song tonight that was recently released from 2010 to the present:

Skylar Laine stayed true to her down home country girl roots by singing Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You that the Season 5 Miss American Idol finalist Kellie Pickler had a hit with. She played guitar and belted out some very big notes very well.

Colton Dixon sat at the piano and delivered a heartfelt and dreamy rendition of I Love The Way You Lie. He showed off his impressive vocal range and unique style and personality. It was sweet and yet incredibly powerful at the same time.

Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye is currently in the Top 5 on the Billboard HOT 100. It's a very powerful song and it showcased Elise at her best, while Phillip just dragged it down with his awkward floundering. For someone who is so full of himself, Phillip didn't seem very confident on stage with this one.

Jessica Sanchez has the confidence to tackle any style of music successfully. She performed the Jazmine Sullivan song Stuttering with outstanding control and perfection. She is ready to be an award winning, top selling professional.

Bruno Mars tore the roof off the place when he performed Runaway Baby at the Grammy Awards this year. Joshua Ledet did the same thing with his electric and dynamic rendition of this uptempo jam. The vocals tonight were his best yet.

Don't You Wanna Stay by Jason Aldean and the Season 1 Miss American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, has been one of the biggest hits ever for well over a year. Colton once again showed off more of his diversity with his vocal stylings while Skylar was right in her comfort zone.

Pink hit the top 5 last year with Perfect and Hollie Cavanagh took it up 200% to even better than perfect. Hollie looked perfectly lovely and sounded perfectly amazing. She has an effortless vocal range that far surpasses anything that Pink could ever dream about doing.

Phillip Phillips just doesn't have what it takes to do justice to the Grammy Award winning, number one hit making group Maroon 5. He looked very uncomfortable on stage with his eyes leering in strange directions and sounding angry, but still very lackluster.

Stronger by the Season 1 Miss American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, recently spent three weeks on top of the Billboard HOT 100 singles chart. Hollie, Joshua and Jessica sounded wonderful as they were throwing this anthem down. It was a serious mixing together of some great voices.

Elise was back where she belongs with her version of Lady Gaga's You And I. While it was more in her element, her vocals still sounded strained and forced.

I predict that this week Elise will be joined in the bottom three with Skylar and Phillip. I think all three of them have reached their peak and have no where else to go but down. It looks like Elise will be going home.

The Results - 80's

Jessica and Joshua were the first to hear that they are both safely coming back next week.

It's been quite a few years since Boy Bands ruled the charts, but it looks like 2012 is the year that they will be making a big comeback. Leading the wave is The Wanted who caused loud screams and squeals of joy as they performed their current hit Glad You Came.

Then Colton and Skylar also got the news that they are safe while Hollie and Deandre had to take the first two seats in the bottom three.

Season 5 Miss American Idol finalist, Kellie Pickler, made a return trip to the stage to perform her latest single called Where's Tammy Wynette. She continues to show off a wonderful personality while serving up fun and entertaining songs.

Phillip is safe leaving Elise to take the final seat in the bottom three with Hollie and Deandre. Unfortunately, it was the fantastic young Deandre who had to sing for his life in the hopes that the judges would save him. Even his great performance couldn't convince them so he is going home from the competition too soon.

I only correctly predicted that Elise would be in the bottom three. She should have been the one to go home.

The Top 8 - Sing the 80's

Tonight the top 8 finalists are singing songs from the totally awesome 80's!

Debarge took I Like It to #31 in 1983 and Deandre Brackensick brought it right into the present. Once again he chose a song that allowed him to show off his extremely impressive vocal range while highlighting his smooth and wonderful falsetto. Deandre is totally ready for his videos to get millions of views on YouTube.

Foreigner hit #1 in 1984 with I Want To Know What Love is. Elise Testone hoped this power ballad would sustain the energy from her rocking performance last week, but unfortunately it just exposed her vocal and performance limitations.

Colton and Skylar got together to perform Islands In The Stream that Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton took to #1 in 1983. For the most part they just appeared to be going through the motions, but their voices are good enough that it wasn't all bad.

Genesis took That's All! to #6 in 1982. Phillip Phillips was out there showing off a combination of awkwardness mixed with anger. He couldn't seem to connect with the song at all and he made it very obvious that he didn't like it.

Hollie and Deandre served up some pure entertainment with their very fun rendition of The Pointer Sisters #9 hit song I'm So Excited from 1984. It was bouncy, energetic and showed off the lightness in their youthful personalities while also highlighting amazing vocals.

Simply Red had a #1 hit in 1989 with If You Don't Know Me By Now. Joshua Ledet once again took the song to his gospel comfort zone and performed with passion. One thing that he hasn't shown off yet is if he can actually sustain a single note for an extended period of time. There's lots of gasping up and down but no controlled blowing us away.

Whitney Houston took How Will I Know to #1 in 1985. Jessica Sanchez really makes it all look so easy. She can perform outstanding vocals live so incredibly well that it's going to be wonderfully impressive to hear what she produces in the studio. She's wonderful.

Phillip and Elise got together to drag down the fantastic classic rock song from 1981 Stop Dragging My Heart Around. Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty took it to #3 on the Billboard HOT 100 and were a completely natural pairing, but these kids just painfully strained their voices trying to force it out.

Irene Cara had a #1 song for 6 weeks in 1983 with Flashdance, What A Feeling. Hollie Cavanagh looked spectacular in a very cute sparkly blue dress while she strutted and showed off her great legs in some very cute shoes. Along with her working the stage so well came more of her fantastic voice that belted out this great song to perfection.

Jessica and Joshua paired up on the 1987 #1 smash I Knew You Were Waiting from George Michael and Aretha Franklin. It's a good song, but it didn't provide Jessica with any great moments to shine and Joshua just over sang it.

Cyndi Lauper won the Grammy for Best New Artist after releasing great material like Time After Time that hit #1 in 1984. Colton Dixon has a unique ability to transform an amazing song into his very own showstopper. He tore the roof off the place while taking us all on the ride with him.

Bette Midler hit #1 in 1989 with Wind Beneath My Wings. Skylar Laine wanted the crowd to see that she can belt out the big notes and this song easily allowed her to do that. She also managed to interpret the song lyrics very well.

My prediction for the bottom three this week is Elise, Phillip and Joshua. They all have the same problem of lacking range and versatility. They serve up the exact same thing every week, but instead of getting better, it just ends up being more tired and boring. I think that Elise will be going home.

2012 ACM's

The Supreme Miss American Idol, Season 4 winner, Carrie Underwood opened the 2012 Academy of Country Music Awards with an explosive performance of her brand new single, Good Girl. She completely tore the roof off the place with her outstanding and powerful vocals and she looked stunningly beautiful as always in hot pink. Also, The video for Good Girl is making a huge splash on the CMT Top 20 Video Countdown. Last week it made its debut at #20 and this week it made the largest leap in CMT Top 20 Video Countdown history jumping all the way up to #1! Anticipation for Carrie's new album, Blown Away, is higher than ever!!!

The Season 10 Miss American Idol winner, Scotty McCreery, also had a great night as he performed his latest single Water Tower Town and also walked away with the ACM for Best New Artist of the Year.

In addition, the Season 1 Miss American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, has continued her winning streak for the duet she did with Jason Aldean, Don't You Wanna Stay. Together they won Vocal Event Of The Year and Single Record Of The Year.
