Hitting the BULLSEYE!

Look at the last page of this week's Entertainment Weekly with the Best of the Decade on the cover. You will see that right in the middle of the page it reads:

27 million albums sold, 7 Grammys and 1 Oscar: Our life would suck without them.

And pictured above this caption is Season Five Miss American Idol 3rd runner up Chris Daughtry, Season Three finalist Jennifer Hudson, Season One Miss American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson and front and center, of course, is the Supreme Miss American Idol, Season Four winner Carrie Underwood.

Incidentally, of the 7 Grammys, one of them went to Jennifer Hudson, two were won by Kelly Clarkson and the remaining four were all awarded to Carrie Underwood including the 2006 Grammy for Best New Artist.

In no particular order for anything after the first choice but here goes:

If I had to pick the best song of 2009. The best single of 2009 for me would have to be "Already Gone" from Kelly Clarkson. If you just going with the CD version it has an amazing beat which Beyonce did steal and released first for Halo but it's still addicted . Second every time Kelly has performed the acoustic version it shows what an incredible artist she is and she always sounds AMAZING!!! She shows with these performances that she is not only her own artist but that she can transcend a song in a vocal masterclass. (an Honorable mention goes to her other songs "All I Ever Wanted" and "Ready." I wanted to also throw in "My Life" but I figured others would and there were others I Loved.)

Allison Iraheta - "Scars" - Allison should have gotten the credit on Idol she deserved. Hopefully when people hear her excellent CD she'll finally be a star. This sound hits all the emotional points and allows her to use that gorgeous husky tone to her voice!!

Lady Gaga - "Poker Face" - I actually prefer this song to "Just Dance." It's the early parts of GaGa's mixed in with the stuff she's been using lately. Also how could you not love the lyrics?

Carrie Underwood - "Temporary Home" I love a lot of the songs on her new album but after hearing this song I felt that Carrie finally got to that emotional place that many people have criticized her for.

Beyonce - "Stop Sign"- I don't know if Stop Sign qualifies as it was left off her album however it's Beyonce singing a beautiful melody within her range accompanied acoustically. It's a gorgeous piece I hope she one day takes a chance and releases it as a single.

Brittany Spears - "3" - I know this is trashy, sleazy, and been done before. Which are ALL things that apply to Brittany. However let's face it once you get this in head it's hard to get rid. I'm sorry Brittany has had that problem before?

Pink - "Sober"- From the drum section to the soaring vocals and dark choir at the end this is an epic song in just about every way. This is Pinks greatest ballad.

Shakira - "She Wolf (Loba)" From the open sounds all the way to the unique vocals. This is an addictive "cool" song that just works no matter how silly the lyrics are.

Kings of Leon - "Use Somebody" - Between this and Sex on Fire these guys are creating great arena rock songs. This song is being done by everyone now but there's a reason why. It's a great song with a hook that sticks with you and a chorus that is timeless.

Mika - "We Are Golden" - I love this teenage anthem that just starts loud and builds and builds to the point where you can't help sing/scream along. It's a great song that is VERY hard to get out of your head!!!

Honorable Mentions Singles that I still can't stop listening to: Miranda Lambert - Dead Flowers, Taylor Swift - 15, Regina Spektor - Laughing With, Cheryl Cole - Parachute, Heaven, Brandy - Right Here (Departed), Lily Allen - The Fear, 22, Mandy Moore - I Could Your Heart Any Day of the Week,
Paloma Faith - Sexy Chick, Black Eye Peas - Missing You, and Beverly Knight - Beautiful Night,

Thanks for sharing! How interesting to get a glimpse into how your mind works. :)

So here's the rules I use when selecting my top 10 of the year. I can only include songs that hit the top 10 of the billboard HOT 100 for at least one week during the eligible time period.

Using my rules, most of yours wouldn't qualify - only Poker Face, 3, and Use Somebody were actually hits in 2009.

I have a separate list of favorites that were non-hits.

I can imagine that you probably dislike most of the songs that make the top 10 of the Billboard HOT 100 these days, but can you come up with seven other favorites using my rules?
