The Top 5 sing America's Choice

The finalists are singing songs that were chosen for them by YOU! The public was given the chance to submit song choices and now this is what they were stuck with.

The evening started out with the Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st runner up, Adam Lambert performing the song that set him far apart from the rest of his competitors, Mad World. He came back to perform again later in the show. This time it was the debut of his brand new single, Welcome To The Show. Hopefully it will leap to the top of the charts after this.

The first finalist to be assured a spot on the show next week was Trent. The selected for him were Counting Stars and Simple Man. Trent seemed to struggle with the uptempo Counting Stars as he wasn't able to insert much of his stylish personality in the song. Simple Man was all about him being a southern farm boy, but overall this was the weakest we have seen him so far.

Dalton is usually very interesting as well, but he fell flat on both of the songs American chose for him. Numb was just straightforward and bland compared to what we have come to expect from him. While the Sounds of Silence was lyrically interesting for him, his vocals were the worst we have heard so far. It exposed the limits to his vocal range.

La'Porsha has already established herself as a wonderful performer. Her song choices were Ready For Love and No More Drama and they both allowed her to remain comfortable in her role as R&B Diva. She is consistent and maintaining her high standard week after week.

I can't figure out why people keep voting for MacKenzie. This skinny boy with a guitar is so boring and uninteresting I can't imagine ever wanting to buy anything he releases. He performed Wild World and Billie Jean. Wild World was just straightforward and boring while Billie Jean was supposed to be impressive because he did a slowed down acoustic version of a Michael Jackson dance song. He just sucked the life out of it and I couldn't wait for it to be over. His vocal range is minimal and his stage presence is just depressing.

That left Tristan and Sonika in the bottom two. They are both better than all three of the boys by leaps and bounds, but only one of them is going to be saved by the judges tonight and be moving forward in the competition.

Tristan performed a wonderful and heartfelt rendition of Independence Day while Sonika delivered outstanding vocals on Let It Go. The judges decided to keep Sonika who was able to come back and give another wonderful vocal performance on Clarity.

I was completely wrong in my prediction that MacKenzie would be eliminated this week but that's not going to prevent me from once again predicting him to be going home next week. I just don't ever want to hear him again.

While Sonika has sadly been one of the lowest vote getters two weeks in a row now, I still believe that she has the talent and the ability to release the most interesting and marketable album of all of the contestants. She will have a very fresh and contemporary mix of ballads and dance pop hits that will all feature her effortless and sensational vocal gift. She is the only finalist that I am voting for.

So much Adam Lambert on Glee

Tonight's episode of Glee was quite literally a Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st runner up Adam Lambert glam-stravaganza!!!!

He started out doing a performance of Heart's Barracuda with Rachel. They jammed and banged their heads to this amazing classic rock anthem.

Then, he joined both Santana and Rachel on a cover of Laura Branigan's Gloria. It was like a competition of them all trying to out sing each other. The song never sounded better.

It's rare that a guest star gets to perform more than two songs in one episode, but he then joined Kurt and Demi Lovato for a third song! This time it was the #1 smash by Diana Ross and the Supremes from 1965, The Happening. It was fun and fabulous!

Finally, Adam added his vocals to the grand finale of the night as the entire cast closed the show with an uplifting version of Hold On by Wilson Phillips.

It is so great seeing Adam Lambert on TV every week on the best show on TV!!!!

Idols are Top Earners!

The Supreme Miss American Idol, Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood tops this year's list of the highest-paid "Idol" alums, pulling in $31 million thanks to platinum-selling "Blown Away," extensive touring and endorsement deals with the likes of Olay. All in all, Underwood has earned $83 million over the past five years, and she's one of many acts continuing to profit from her exposure on the show.

Kelly Clarkson ranks second with $7 million, banking the bulk of her bucks on the road. She's followed by 2012 winner Phillip Phillips and 2009 runner-up Adam Lambert, who are tied for third with $5 million apiece.
"Adam used the launching pad of 'American Idol' very well to have a successful recording career," says his co-manager Martin Kirkup. "I think the main part of his career still lies ahead of him."

Phillips, meanwhile, has been quick to capitalize on his 2012 "Idol" win. His coronation song, the Mumford-esque "Home," went on to sell more than 4 million copies--the best of any in Idol's history -- and his debut album earned platinum certification. He's been adding to his coffers on the road, playing more than 90 shows in our scoring period.
The show itself, now entering its 13th season, is on a more dubious trajectory.

Ratings have dipped 30 percent each of the past two years, a trend that "Idol"'s brass is trying to stop by revamping the show. There's a new set, new lighting, new theme music and new judges: Harry Connick, Jr. and Jennifer Lopez will join Keith Urban, the lone holdover from last year's trio.

Despite the negative trends, last year's winner Candice Glover should be optimistic: Phillips and Scotty McCreery, who ranks sixth with $3 million, are reversing a trend of recent winners who've gone on to have underwhelming solo careers. Even older victors like Fantasia Barrino (2004) and Taylor Hicks (2006) cracked the list, with $1.5 and $2.5 million in income, respectively.

"The platform of 'American Idol' changed my life," says Hicks, who now owns a restaurant in his native Alabama and recently became the first Idol alum to land a Las Vegas residency. "I am very thankful. ... To have that platform has allowed me to blossom."

Earnings estimates are calculated with the help of data from Pollstar Pro, the RIAA, Nielsen SoundScan as wells industry veterans, the musicians' handlers and some of the artists themselves. These numbers reflect pretax earnings from June 2012 through June 2013.

Older graduates of the show no longer have to worry about handing back the bulk of their bucks to "Idol," but more recent winners must turn over about half of their income -- before paying any remaining agents, managers and attorneys, not to mention Uncle Sam. Last year, McCreery estimated he'd only pocket somewhere around one-fifth of his gross earnings, though he didn't seem to mind too much. "It's depressing when you look at it, but I'm still making a good amount," he said. "I'm not in any way complaining ... I'm doing a lot better than I was a few summers ago, living off the coin jar in my truck."

American Idol Superstars 2013

Even though there are new singing competition shows on that are getting attention, none of them are getting close to the standard that has been set by American Idol. While people might be gossiping about X-Factor and The Voice, the reality is that, they are complete failures at finding or creating new music superstars. In the many seasons that these shows have been on, there hasn't been a single finalist or winner to even make a ripple in the real world.

The American Idol winners and finalists, on the other hand, can be found actually working and thriving in the music business. Many of them have become viable stars on their own apart from their initial American Idol exposure. They are winning awards, appearing on TV shows, starring in movies, getting radio airplay and the public is buying their music! Just look at the impact the American Idol Superstars had in 2013:

The Season 11 Miss American Idol winner Phillip Phillips was all over the radio with his two hit songs Home and Gone Gone Gone. According to the Billboard Year End charts he had the #14 album of the year! He was even nominated as the Favorite New Artist at the American Music Awards.

The Season 10 Miss American Idol winner Scotty McCreery released his third album and saw it come in at #1 on the Billboard Country albums chart. At the American Country Awards he actually won the award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year.

The Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up Adam Lambert started appearing on the hit TV show Glee where his distinctive singing, dancing and acting style is being put to use every week.

The Season 5 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up Katharine McPhee completed her starring role in the musical drama series Smash.

The Season 5 Miss American Idol finalist Kellie Pickler is a consistent award nominee for her country music and this year she ended up winning the Mirror Ball trophy on Dancing With The Stars.

The Season 5 Miss American Idol finalist Mandisa has totally dominated the Gospel world with the release of her album Overcomer. She has earned three Grammy nominations for her music this year.

The Season 3 Miss American Idol winner Fantasia released her 4th studio album and has also received impressive critical acclaim including three Grammy nominations.

The Oscar winner and Season 3 Miss American Idol finalist Jennifer Hudson starred in the movie Winnie Mandela that is now streaming on netflix.

The Season 2 Miss American Idol winner Ruben Studdard was a contestant on this season of the Biggest Loser and he has already lost over 100 pounds. Even though he has been eliminated, by the end of the season he hopes to lose another 100 pounds.

The Season 1 Miss American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson started out the year by winning her third Grammy (Best Pop Album) and she ended the year with the very successful release of her holiday collection, Wrapped in Red topping the charts and also allowing her the opportunity to have her own Christmas TV special.

Adam Lambert on Glee!

The Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up, Adam Lambert, has made his first appearance on the hit musical TV series, Glee.

Adam plays a struggling artist in New York who auditions to be in a band that is being formed by main character, Kurt Hummel. Adam's character goes by the name, Starchild, and he blows everyone away with his first song, a cover of the Lady Gaga hit, Marry The Night. It is a spectacular, over the top glam rock, high energy performance. Kurt is initially threatened by Starchild's talent, but he eventually gives in and agree to put him in the band.

There is definitely some flirtatious chemistry going on between Kurt and Starchild, so in coming episodes this could pose a threat to Kurt's engagement to Blaine who is back at him.

2013 VMA's

The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards will go down in history as the night that Miley Cyris made a complete fool of herself. It was also a very big night for Justin Timberlake, but hidden in all of the drama was a couple of highlights from the American Idols.

The overriding theme of the night was the support for marriage equality. All of the artists from Lady Gaga to Katy Perry have been very outspoken that the time has come for change. The Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up, Adam Lambert, has already come out as an out and proud gay man quite a few years ago, so he was a natural to be on stage as a presenter this year.

The Moonman for best Video with a Social Message was presented to macklemore and ryan for their song Same Love. When they performed the song live, the female vocalist who sings the chorus, Mary Lambert, was on hand at the beginning, but she stepped aside when the Season 3 Miss American Idol finalist and Oscar winner, Jennifer Hudson took the stage and added her amazing voice to the song.

American Idol Superstar - Adam Lambert

The Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up, Adam Lambert, enjoyed some great success after his run on the show. He got on the cover of Rolling Stone, released his first album, For Your Entertainment, and landed a top 10 hit on the Billboard HOT 100 with his single Whatya Want From Me. That single even earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Male Vocal Performance.

While he is one of the flashiest finalists ever to come out of American Idol, in 2012 he has proven that he is not just a flash in the pan. He released his second album this year called Trespassing and it debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. Rolling Stone magazine listed it as one of the best albums of 2012. It's an exciting and vibrant collection of dance pop music that showcases his outstanding vocal abilities.

His impressive voice has gotten the attention of legendary rock group, Queen, and they have actually asked him to perform with them at live performances.

Adam has also made a name for himself as a leader and an innovator when it comes to his sense of style and fashion. This is the kind of image that makes him high in demand for opportunities like the hosting the VH1 DIVAS concert. He kept the show interesting and very entertaining while showing off multiple costume changes and uniquely interpreting some of the best dance music of all time.

All of this style has lead to the Mattel Toy Company actually creating an Adam Lambert doll/action figure! The original one-of-a-kind collectible comes with a certificate of authenticity, a rockin’ display case, a bejeweled mic and a mic stand. The doll was made available to benefit the AIDS organization, Project Angel Food.

2012 was a great year for American Idol Superstar - Adam Lambert!

American Idol DIVAS

The 2012 VH1 DIVAS concert turned into yet another Miss American Idol Family Reunion.

The Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up, Adam Lambert, served as host of the show. This gave him an exciting opportunity to show off numerous high fashion costume changes while also adding his unique vocal talents to quite a few numbers.  The theme of the show this year was a celebration of dance and disco music.

Adam opened the show with an outstanding rendition of David Bowie's #1 smash hit from 1983, Let's Dance. During a tribute to Donna Summer, he added his special flavor to her big hits, Hot Stuff and Last Dance. Finally, to acknowledge her significant contributions to genre, Adam performed Madonna's Ray Of Light.

The Season 1 Miss American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, is currently promoting her Greatest Hits collection, so she took the VH1 Divas stage to sing her single, Catch My Breath, that is included as a new track on the album.

In addition, there was a tribute to Whitney Houston with a medley of some of her best dance hits. After starring in Sparkle with her this year, it was no surprise at all that the Season 6 Miss American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks, would lend her voice to the mix. Jordin looked stunning in a glamorous long gown as she sounded flawless performing I'm Every Woman. Later, she returned to the stage to join in a group performance of How Will I Know.

More Favorite Songs From 2012

I recently listed my Top 10 Favorite Songs of 2012. Just for clarification let me explain that those songs all had to meet the eligibility for that list by reaching the Top 10 on the Billboard HOT 100 during 2012. I happen to be one of those people that believes that "It's not a hit until it's a hit on Billboard". Just in case you don't know, in order to reach the top of the Billboard HOT 100, a song must get the most sales and radio airplay for any given week.

There were lots of other songs that I loved in 2012 that failed to make the top 10 on the Billboard HOT 100 singles chart. Here's a list of some of my other favorites in 2012. One thing that I can say about all of these songs is that it's a shame it didn't get more sales and airplay to do better on the Billboard HOT 100 singles chart.

In the ideal world, great songs from Country, Pop, Dance and R&B would all find their way to the upper positions of the Billboard HOT 100.

Good Girl - Carrie Underwood: This first single from the Supreme Miss American Idol's 4th album was a huge hit by all accounts topping the Country Singles Chart, winning the Video of the Year at the CMT Awards and staying at #1 on the CMT Top 20 Video Countdown for a record breaking 14 weeks. Somehow it stalled at #18 on the Billboard HOT 100.

Triumphant - Mariah Carey: All of the fans had high hopes that this would become Mariah's 19th #1 on the Billboard HOT 100, but it unfortunately fell short even though it's a great song. It did manage to hit #1 on the BET 106 & Park countdown for a few weeks and the dance remix hit #1 on the Billboard Dance/Club Play chart.

Time Is Love - Josh Turner: This is the perfect song to dance a fun two-step to. It has a great beat and Josh's voice is deep and wonderful as always.

Kissed You Goodnight - Gloriana: What an outstanding ballad that perfectly captures the longing and the yearning of new love. When it's the end of a great date, all you want to do is push that great guy up against the wall and kiss him. Just do it and have no regrets!

Celebrate - Jordin Sparks: This uplifting dance track with Whitney Houston from the Sparkle soundtrack should have been huge. It has everything that I want to hear on the radio in heavy rotation. It is crazy that it was not well-received. Oh well, I enjoyed it immensely!

5150 - Dierks Bentley: When I hear this hard driving rugged jam, I feel like a hot cowboy. It's fun and sexy and I can't get enough of it. Somebody's gonna call the po po because I am playing it too loud again. :)

Touch Me - Katharine McPhee: How exciting to see the Season 5 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up deliver this high energy dance throw down on Smash. The only thing that would have made it better was to hear it on the radio all the time.

Pontoon - Little Big Town: It is summer time and fun in the sun year round when listening to this light and easy celebration of floating and motor boating.

Love You Like A Love Song - Selena Gomez: This beautiful Disney teen queen is continuing to crank out some of the best dance pop music out there. It's too bad she just keeps falling short of crossing over into mainstream superstardom. It's surely coming soon...

Georgia Peaches - Lauren Alaina: The Season 10 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up is at her best on this toe tapping jam. Still one of my favorite new line dances of the year as well.

Trespassing - Adam Lambert: The Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up hit #1 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart, but none of the singles connected with radio and sales. This song is sorely overlooked and I am still holding out hope that it will get the attention it deserves.

Think Like A Man - Jennifer Hudson: The Oscar winner and Season 3 Miss American Idol finalist sounds amazing on this empowering R&B piece of advice to women.

Idols on the Charts!

The Supreme Miss American Idol, Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood leads the pack of 6 albums on in the upper portion of the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart this week. Her release Blown Away is holding at #3 for a 2nd week after spending its first two weeks at #1.

The newly crowned Season 11 Miss American Idol winner, Phillip Phillips' "Journey to the Finale" album debuts at #11 with 24,000 units sold. The set is exclusively sold via the iTunes Store.

The Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up, Adam Lambert is at #12 with his album Trespassing.

The Season 10 Miss American Idol 2nd Runner Up, Haley Reinhart starts out at #17 with her debut album Listen Up! with 1st week sales of 20,000 copies.

With 18,000 copies sold, the "American Idol Season 11 - Top 2 Season Finale" EP starts out at #21.  This is a collection of songs by both Phillip Phillips and the Season 11 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up, Jessica Sanchez.

Further down the list at #26 is the debut of the 2nd album the Season 8 Miss American Idol winner, Kris Allen. His collection called Thank You Camellia sold 17,000 copies in its first week. Allen's self-titled debut started at #11 with 80,000 copies sold in 2009.

Adam Lambert is #1

The Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st runner up, Adam Lambert makes a strong debut at the #1 position on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart with his second release, Trespassing. He had first week sales of 77,000 copies sold.

This is a very significant moment in Miss American Idol history as it is the first time that one "American Idol" replaces another at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. His arrival bumps last week's leader, The Supreme Miss American Idol, Season 4 winner, Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away," down to #3.

In addition, with a Miss American Idol ruling the chart for three weeks in a row, it's the longest that "Idol" has monopolized the #1 slot. There have been two-week runs atop the list, but always from a singular album -- like Carrie Underwood just did these past two weeks with "Blown Away."

This is Adam Lambert's first #1 album and is his second major label studio set. It follows 2009's "For Your Entertainment," which debuted and peaked at No. 3 with 198,000 sold in its first week.

Adam Lambert is the seventh Miss American Idol finalist to reach #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart following Season 1 winner, Kelly Clarkson, Season 2 winner, Ruben Studdard, Season 2 1st runner up, Clay Aiken, Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood, Season 5 3rd runner up, Chris Daughtry, and Season 10 winner, Scotty McCreery.

The Results - Top 3

Jessica, Phillip and Joshua opened the show with a group performance of a song that Earth Wind and Fire took to #9 in 1978, Got To Get You Into My Life. As the only one who can really sing, Jessica really shined while the boys were simply her back-up singers.

While waiting to find out which of the three finalists are going to be competing in the finals next week, we were treated to some interesting entertainment. Lisa Marie Presley made her very first appearance on the American Idol stage to perform her new single. It was pretty hard to describe. There were some elements of retro classic rock in there along with some mystical, hippie vibes. Hopefully this high profile opportunity will result in the career boost that she's looking for.

The highlight of the night came from a dynamic and explosive performance from the Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st runner up, Adam Lambert. He sported his signature shiny look along with some neon yellow as he delivered his amazing vocals on the single Never Close Our Eyes. With this performance, he is likely to see the album, Trespassing, make a very big debut on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart next week.

It was then revealed that Jessica Sanchez would be going head to head with Phillip Phillips next week in the Season 11 Miss American Idol finals. Joshua Ledet was the lowest vote getter of the week, so he must be eliminated from the competition.

I am very happy that I got my prediction wrong this week and that Jessica has made it to the finals. She is a world class, top-notch vocalist and I am very excited to see how she completely blows Phillip off the stage next week.

Blown Away and Trespassing

The Supreme Miss American Idol, Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood is soon to be sharing the top 10 of the Billboard 200 Albums chart with another member of the Idol Alumni Association.

The Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up has just released his second album, Trespassing.

As you can see, both of these great albums have made it into my CD collection.

American Idol DIVAS!

Mark your calendars for March 20, 2012 because that's the day that the Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up, Adam Lambert, will be releasing his next full album! It's going to be called Trespassing and the first single, Better Than I Know Myself, is available for download now. With this exciting new release coming up 2012 is shaping up to be a great year.

As 2011 comes to an end, there was one more high profile event where a couple of the Miss American Idols made appearances: VH1 Divas Celebrate Soul.

The Season 1 Miss American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, made herself comfortable and performed her latest single, What Doesn't Kill You, up on the stage barefoot. This is an outstanding single and it should hopefully become one of her biggest hits. Kelly also sang Chain of Fools in a tribute to Motown Soul.

Season 3 Miss American Idol finalist and Oscar winner, Jennifer Hudson, commanded the stage in full disco diva mode as she performed the smoking hot dance track Night Of Your Life. This song can be found on a collection by DJ David Guetta and it is required listening for anyone who appreciates a real club thumper. She also did another disco classic, Knock On Wood.

But the very exciting news is that Kelly and Jennifer performed on stage together for the very first time in the thrilling opening number. They stood center stage along with Mary J. Blige and performed a cover of the Supremes You Keep Me Hanging on before taking turns with their own biggest hits. Jennifer stole the show with Spotlight while Kelly rocked the house with Since U Been Gone.

American Idols at the AMA's

The 2011 American Music Awards have come and gone. This year none of the Miss American Idols walked away with any awards because they weren't even nominated. But that didn't stop many of the Miss American idols from making appearances.

Season 3 Miss American Idol finalist and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson was there looking fabulous to present an award. Also, the Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up, Adam Lambert was also a presenter. Unlike the last time he was at the American Music Awards, he did not get a chance to sing or kiss a boy live on camera, but he was still full of enthusiam.

The Season 1 Miss American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, did get the chance to perform her latest top 10 hit, Mr. Know It All, with a very fun New Orleans style jazz arrangement. If we are lucky, this remixed version will get released as a single.

Finally, the Season 5 Miss American Idol 3rd Runner Up, Chris Daughtry, performed the first single, Crawling Back To You, from his newly released third album. This high profile appearance helped to propel his album, "Break the Spell" to debut at #8 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart with first week sales of 129,000. His previous two releases both hit #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. In 2007 "Daughtry" had first week sales of 304,000 and in 2009 "Leave This Town" had first week sales of 269,000.

And this week there are two Miss American Idols in the top 10 as the Season 10 Miss American Idol winner, Scotty McCreery moves back up to #10 with sales of 88,000 for his debut album, Clear As Day.

The Results - Their Idols

The Lucky 13 opened the show with a fun medley of Michael Jackson's greatest hits. You could definitely tell that they were singing live as it was pretty choppy in places, but they did their best.

Jacob and Stefano are safe, but Karen ended up being the first one in the bottom three.

The Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st Runner Up, Adam Lambert, returned to perform his song Aftermath. He is making it available as a charity single to support the It Gets Better Campaign that helps give gay youth support in the face of ignorant bullying. Adam's performance was just as dynamic and spectacular as we have come to expect from him. This acoustic rendition was jam packed with outstanding vocals conveying every emotion in the meaningful lyrics.

Then Lauren was informed that she is safe while both Ashthon and Haley had to join Karen in completing the bottom three.

Diddy Dirty Money, or Puff Daddy, or P Diddy then came out to perform his latest single Coming Home in the hopes of getting an American Idol bump to help improve its sales and airplay.

The good news was then given to Karen and Haley that they are coming back next week, while Ashthon got the bad news. And then it got worse when the judges decided that they were not going to use their SAVE on her. She sadly had to watch her brief Miss American Idol experience get summed up while listening to this season's new "Goodbye" song.

This year, the producers are giving a break to the Season 7 Miss American Idol winner, David Cook, who has recorded his own version of the 1985 #1 smash by Simple Minds, Don't You Forget About Me to be used as the "Goodbye" song.

I correctly predicted all three of the lowest vote getters, but I would have rather seen Haley go home instead of Ashthon.

The Top 12 boys take their first shot...

Tonight we get to know what these top 12 boys can really do - they can pick any song they want to present themselves to America for the first time:

Stevie Wonder took Superstition to #1 in 1972. Clint Jun Gamboa used this funky jam to belt out some big notes. He did a pretty good job, but not sure if it will be enough to win over votes after he turned off the fans during the group portion of the Hollywood round. He just doesn't seem like a very nice guy.

Edwin McCain took I'll Be to #5 in 1998. Jovany Barreto thoroughly and completely impressed with vocals that were pure and powerful. Combined with his stunning good looks he elevated this song to higher heights with an amazing crescendo at the end of the song that was a million times better than the original.

Usher took OMG to #1 in 2010. Jordan Dorsey missed the mark with his awkward efforts at dancing and this song choice did not showcase any interesting vocals at all.

Tim Halperin doesn't have a chance based on this performance of Rob Thomas' Come On Over. It was clunky and vocally choppy. This didn't inspire any interest.

The Doors took Light My Fire to #1 for three weeks in 1967. Brett Loewenstern has that skinny rock star thing going for him along with a dynamic and bold vocal range. His youth comes through, though, with the lack of maturity and intensity that this song requires.

Judas Priest became classic heavy metal rockers with songs like You've Got Another Thing Coming. James Durbin tried to set himself apart from the original glam-rock standard set by the Season 8 Miss American Idol 1st Runner-Up, Adam Lambert. While he's very talented vocally, James does not do Judas Priest better than Adam could.

Sarah McLachlan took Angel to #4 in 1999. Robbie Rosen's rendition of this sweet ballad was painful to listen to. His voice is very plain and lacking any personality and his huge smile didn't help at all to convey the appropriate emotions for the lyrics.

John Michael Montgomery took Letters From Home to #24 in 2004. Scotty McCreery is up there doing an imitation of what other singers have already done better. He's a talented deep-voiced country boy, but he doesn't really add anything new to the mix.

Bruno Mars took Just The Way You Are to #1 in 2010. Stefano Langone has a sweet and smooth tenor voice that fits into what is happening in pop music right now. In addition, he's very young and cute and ready for music videos.

Rod Stewart took Maggie May to #1 for five weeks in 1971. Paul McDonald recreated this classic tale of love into a quirky slice of hipster delight. He has a warm personality that pulls you in and keeps you engaged.

Luther Vandross gave the world a legendary version of A House is Not A Home. Jacob Lusk was clearly trying very hard to over-sing his way into our hearts, but it was all a lot of loud screaming effort without the emotional pay-off.

Casey Abrams puts on a great show when he closes his eyes tightly and screams at the top of his lungs. It looks impressive on stage, but it is very reminiscent of what made Taylor Hicks the Season 5 Miss American Idol winner. The fans loved him on stage, but they didn't buy his albums.

Now it's up to America to vote and for the first time you can go online to support your favorites at http://www.americanidol.com/.

My top 5 will be: Jovany Barreto, Brett Loewenstern, James Durbin, Stefano Langone, and Paul McDonald.

And Jovany is my early favorite. :)
